Brain ache - Mathmatically

Posted: Thu 6th Dec 2007@15:20

I've started properly revising for my Machine Learning exam in a couple of weeks. Tom and I have been discussing our grasp of mathematics, and I have decided that I don't have much of one!

I haven't actually done any proper maths since GCSE level maths back at William Parker School (and here) with Mrs. ?????? (nice lady, can't remeber her name - doh) and Miss. El-Sharaway, about 14 years ago. Which incidentally seems to have become something called a sports college, whatever that means (Dumming down?)- maybe Wykeham house will have won something by now!

I'm starting to wonder whether I can do Computer Science without a strong maths background, and I wonder whether any of my old school teachers would believe that I'm doing a PhD! Notably, Mr. W. G. Clarke, Mrs. Blackwell, Mr. C. Cole, Mr Barry and Mr. Day all of whom I often had to explain absence, lack of effort and skyving off too.

I am hoping however, that by the time the exam comes round, I'll have at least got a firm grasp of the principles of machine learning, which seems to me to basically be a bit like statistics...

Oh well, back to revision :D

-- Update (Mrs Biker was her name!) - Thanks to Si Thomas :)

Just remember to not listen to Big Brother. 2+2 is 4 not 5.
